Controversial Dating App ‘HighBlood’ Co-founded by NUS Student
A launch Kim Jong Un would be envious of.
In the event that you’ve already exhausted the latest dating apps in the market and have yet to find true love (or a sugar daddy), there’s a new player on the market. HighBlood.co is an upcoming dating application that “allows you to swipe and filter based on income, profession and prestige schools.” No chance of getting Twitter and Instagram verified? HighBlood offers you the option of submitting income statements, employment contracts, college certifications and perhaps even actual blood samples for that nice little tick next to your profile on the app.
If you are rich, attractive, certifiably intelligent, enjoy looking at people with your nose turned upwards and hope to procreate with similar individuals without diluting your blond hair blue-eyed Aryan bloodline, this might just be the thing for you.
NUS Student
Alongside CEO Herbert Eng (who also founded Fessup), NUS’ very own FASS student, Kylie Teo serves as the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of the controversial app, ensuring that the business end of things run smoothly.
Rationale
HighBlood was created with the intention to eliminate fake profiles and catfishing, commonly found in online dating. New users have to get approved by at least 3 out of 5 random, existing users before officially being part of the network. If, like majority of the Bullet Campus team, you were born with troll-ish features, you could avoid this process by paying 100 SGD and join the network anyway...I guess money talks.
NTU? Deny.
Controversy
A while back, the app was criticised as being “racist”, “bigoted” and just downright “disastrous”, with coverage by both local and global news sites (all articles combined could probably make for a full week of readings).
Somehow, CEO Herbert does not seem fazed by the criticism at all, stating in a post on Medium, that “all publicity is good publicity, especially if deliberately engineered.”
Soft Launch at Get Juiced
Despite the negative press, both founders seem to be confident of HighBlood’s potential, going so far as to organise a soft launch at Get Juiced, promising a free drink (no typo, just one) to all who have the app downloaded.
If you’ve got any doubt about your looks, we recommend bringing a hundred dollar bill just in case.
For dating hopefuls and those simply looking to avoid paying for booze, RSVP here. Besides investors and press, they’ve also extended the invitation to all university students.
