5 Best and Worst NUS Degrees Based on Employability and Salary
Time to find out who’s bad and boujee.
So instead of working on impending submissions, the Bullet team has taken into our hands the responsibility of providing you the external validation (or invalidation) for your choice of degree. We looked at MOE’s 2016 Graduation Employment Survey - for NUS specifically - and came up with the top 5 most and least attractive degrees (based on full-time permanent employment rates as well as gross median salaries).
According to MOE, the survey was disseminated to over 6,000 graduates (6 months post-final examinations) during the November of 2016, with an overall response rate of 80.4%.
Source Fellow penultimate and final year students, too late, you’ve already dug your ditch. Freshmen and sophomores, switch out while you can!!!
Most and Least Employable Degrees
For employability, we considered only the full-time permanent employment rates - meaning “employment of at least 35 hours a week and where the employment is not temporary. It includes those on contracts of one year or more.” This means that if you’re a part-time/temporary/freelance magnate (or Herbalife supplement distributor), consider yourself safe from this consideration set.
Dental, Medicine and Law? It's not like we didn't already know this. Basically why we're salty and don't ever feature these groups in our articles.
Don't be fooled by the 14.3% employment rate for dem musicians - they probably easily earn more than business students charging those exorbitant fees for child piano lessons. Also, Engineering - 65.5%? Virgins make up a larger proportion of the cohort.
Highest and Lowest Median Salaries
The incomes considered only covered those who were permanently employed on a full-time basis, before any tax and CPF deductions were made. The median salaries are basically those of the 50th percentile, for when incomes are not evenly distributed (i.e. distinguishing between graduates who take the MRT and those who take cabs during the peak hour price surge.)
Capitalism, ladies and gentleman.
Okay, but how the hell is Project & Facilities Management an Art and Real Estate a Science?
Actual Significance to Your Life
Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter if your degree comes out on top or bottom (let our fab gay friends worry about that), at least it's worth (and priced) more than a diploma! (KIDDING) Of course, don’t quote us on this in the event of any gross inaccuracies. If Grab drivers can earn $6,000 a month, what’s stopping Arts majors? Literally anything is possible.
